***Simone LaDrumma has been drumming professionally since 1987. She was an original member of the Anzanga Marimba Ensemble and Afree Rhythm. In 1992 she founded and for eight years directed Ladies Don't Drum, a world beat percussion ensemble who performed and recorded with the Seattle Men's Chorus, Maya Angelou, Bobby McFerrin and Holly Near, among others. In 1998 "Ladies" released their CD, Nailin' It, to excellent reviews.
In addition to private classes, Simone teaches drumming through the University of Washington's Experimental College. She also travels the country bringing her drums and humor to homes, libraries, schools, penal institutions and many other special populations. As a solo entertainer, she performs at both public and private events.
She has appeared on KOMO-TV and the PBS special "The Granny Myth." LaDrumma puts out a quarterly newsletter called "On The Beat" for her students and lovers of the drum. (available upon request).

Located under the Aurora Bridge in the Fremont district of Seattle, the Fremont Drum School offers a low stress drum circle environment for people wanting to learn how to play the rhythms of Africa and Her Diaspora. Classes taught by Bill Matthews.
BEGINNING 1 -- Tuesday nights, 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Starting the first Tuesday of every month, and continuing for 4 consecutive Tuesdays, Beginning 1 students explore basic hand technique as well as rhythms from Jamaica, Liberia, and Haiti. No experience necessary! ($48 for 4 classes).
BEGINNING 2 -- Tuesday nights, 8:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
This continuation class emphasizes rhythms in 12/8 time, hand technique, two parts playing together, and having a good time! ($48 for 4 classes).
ADVANCED BEGINNING 1 -- Wednesday nights, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Students continue to study the rhythms from a wide variety of African and Afro-Caribbean drum cultures. ($48 for 4 classes).
ADVANCED BEGINNING 2 -- Wednesday nights, 8:30 to 9:45 p.m.
This class begins to build traditional (and traditionally inspired) polyrhythm compositions. ($48 for 4 classes).
PERFORMANCE CLASS 1 -- Thursday nights, 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Traditional ensemble rhythms orchestrated for 'playing out' at dances (see "FREMONT DRUM AND DANCE"). By Appointment.
SOLO CLASS -- Thursday nights, 8:30 to 9:45 p.m.
This class concentrates on soloing techniques and phrasing. By appointment.
