just curious....

There are over 100 people on this Seattle Drum Circle tribe -- does anyone ever actually participate in a drum circle? Where? When?

It sounds like the Turtle Drum sacred drumming events Tasara has been hosting have been going well. And I know of some drum & dance classes that are going strong. I'm happy for all that.

But beyond these organized, indoor events, whatever happened to just getting together in the park on a sunny summer day & jamming out? That used to happen a lot all over Seattle, but if it's happening anywhere right now, I sure can't find it. From what I see, interest in outdoor drum circles seems to be at it's lowest ebb in all the 15 years or so that I've been drumming in Seattle.

I feel kinda sad about it. Anyone have any good news I don't know about?

    Hi Lance,

I guess my good news is that I am so over-whirly whirled by going to both the Oregon Country Fair and Faerieworlds right in a row that though, I have been longing to meet you out there, I am either driving home from Oregon or exhausted. I wonder how the Greenlake ones have been going.

Turtle Drum actually fluctuates, but the Dojo host is letting me hang in there, paying her whatever comes in the door to see if being in one place long enough grows a community.

A very wise person told me that even when no one shows up, it is important to have the circle anyways, whether it is a drum circle, a reiki circle or a shamanic circle. It is holding the energy for what it is so that it does not die. I am learning to be a rock in the stream, steady and constant, that everyone knows they can go to.. Of course as long as I have the resources: time, money and energy to be that way. As hard as it is to do, I believe that those of use who practice this become the footholds for alternative culture. I think of you as the Gasworks park rock in the stream. Maybe you could make some flyers and hang them around.

I hope to see you before the season is out.

I'm not available this Sunday, as I'll be performing at Alki beach. But I encourage others to get together to keep the drum circle beat alive. Or else come out to Alki for a nice afternoon of music & dance.
